What to Expect at Your Initial Interview Appointment
Your initial appointment is designed to be smooth, efficient, and stress‑free. My role is to guide you through the legal requirements while ensuring the experience feels relaxed and welcoming.
Arriving Together
You’re welcome to arrive at the same time. I’ll greet you both, outline how the appointment will run, and ensure you feel comfortable before we begin.
Separate Consent Meetings
Under Australia’s updated marriage laws, I am required to meet with each partner individually and in person before the marriage ceremony. These private conversations are brief, confidential, and simply confirm your identity and your free, informed consent to marry.
The process is straightforward:
- One partner meets with me in the meeting room;
- The other waits comfortably in the reception area;
- Then we switch.
Each conversation typically takes only a few minutes.
What to Bring
To keep the process efficient, please bring the following:
Identification
- Original Passport.
- Original Birth Certificate and/or Driver Licence.
Previous Marriages (if applicable)
- Divorce Order and/or
- Death Certificate of a former spouse
These documents allow us to complete the required legal checks and ensure your paperwork is ready for the next steps.
Important Notes
- Appointment‑only
- No walk‑ins
- No outdoor ceremonies

Frequently Asked Questions
Are you a Government Registry?
No, Gold Coast City Marriage Registry is not a government registry. Gold Coast City Marriage Registry is a private marriage registry operated by an authorised Australian marriage celebrant. All ceremonies are conducted in accordance with the Marriage Act 1961 (Cth). Legal notice periods apply. Not a travelling celebrant wedding service. A private, registry-first model offering legal certainty with discretion.
Can you help with paperwork?
Yes. We manage all required legal documentation and lodge your marriage with the relevant authority.
Can you marry us urgently?
Yes, where legally permitted. Australian law requires a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) to be lodged at least one month in advance. In limited circumstances, a shortening of time may be approved by a prescribed authority. Please note this is subject to Gold Coast City Marriage Registry’s availability.
Can we still have a larger wedding later?
Absolutely. Many couples complete their legal marriage privately at Gold Coast City Marriage Registry, then hold a larger symbolic ceremony or celebration later.
Do we need to live in Australia?
No. There is no residency requirement to marry in Australia.
Do you marry international couples?
Yes. Gold Coast City Marriage Registry regularly assists international couples.
Do you provide witnesses?
Yes. Witnesses can be provided if needed and subject to availability.
How many guests can attend?
Our registry is designed for couples and a small number of guests. Please discuss with the celebrant in your initial appointment.
Is the location public?
No. Our registry operates from a private, climate-controlled office suite. Appointment only.
Is the marriage legally recognised?
Yes. All marriages conducted at Gold Coast City Marriage Registry are legally recognised under Australian law and registered accordingly.
What should we wear?
There is no dress code. Wear whatever feels right for you.
Where are you located?
We are in a climate-controlled office suite in Southport Towers in the Gold Coast CBD. Full address details are provided upon booking.
Will our marriage be recognised overseas?
Australian marriages are generally recognised internationally. We recommend confirming with your relevant embassy or legal authority if required.
What are separate consent meetings?
At your initial interview appointment, you’re welcome to arrive together. I’ll simply meet with each of you privately for a few minutes, as required by Australian marriage law, to confirm your identity and your free, informed consent to marry. These chats are quick, relaxed, and nothing to worry about. We then proceed to meet together to discuss specific details of your ceremony.
How long before our wedding do we need to lodge the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM)?
Australian law requires your NOIM to be lodged at least one month before your wedding date. The one‑month period begins from the date the NOIM is witnessed by your celebrant (or another authorised witness), not from when you first fill it out.
How long is the NOIM valid for?
Once witnessed, your NOIM remains valid for 18 months from the date of lodgement. This means your marriage can take place any time within that 18‑month window without needing to complete a new NOIM form.
Why Choose a Private Marriage Registry?
No queues or public waiting areas, no weather stress or outdoor contingencies, Flexible scheduling where possible, Personalised, professional service, calm, respectful atmosphere and designed for adults who want efficiency without losing dignity. This is marriage, handled properly.
